If you need to convert your first meet into a successful business relationship, it is crucial to introduce yourself effectively. Negative first impression on you can happen without your knowledge. It is hard to make a first impression into a positive impression. I think we need to put some effort into our introductions especially when we meet our clients first time. Introducing ourselves to someone is for creating some sort of ongoing rapport for mutual benefit. To form an opinion of you, it hardly takes 10 seconds and the opinion once formed after you introduce yourself, can be difficult to modify.

Introduce yourself in a way, people would feel interested in speaking to you. The first thing you need to keep in mind while you introduce yourself is, you need to sell yourself and interact confidently so that others feel ease to respond.

When introducing yourself you should consider following information:

  • Your name, your role or title
  • Your Responsibilities with effective adjectives and adverbs
  • a brief description of your business
  • A ‘memory hook’ (quick, ear-catching phrase that people are likely to remember)
  • A benefit statement of one particular product or service you offer

The length of your introduction shouldn’t need to be long, and I would say it depends on the circumstances of the introduction. Always remember to smile and make eye contact with the person you are speaking to.
